Brent Feorene Named Treasurer

The American Academy of Home Care Physicians is pleased to welcome Brent T. Feorene, MBA as our new Treasurer. He is President of House Call Solutions in Westlake, Ohio, a consulting firm dedicated to the design and planning, implementation and support of health system and payer-sponsored medical house call programs and other comprehensive care management services for chronically ill individuals. Mr. Feorene is the chair of the AAHCP Practice Management Resources Committee, currently developing a new booklet as a sequel to the Academy’s gold booklet. He also serves on the Member Services and Annual Meeting Program Committees.

Prior to forming House Call Solutions, Mr. Feorene was Principal at Gammel and Associates, a boutique consulting firm specializing in medical house call programs for the frail, low-mobility elderly. He has also served as Senior Consultant at Medimetrix and Consultant for The Raleigh Group. He earned his MBA at The Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University, and his Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University, graduating both programs with honors. He is a sought-after presenter on strategic and operational issues impacting hospitals, physicians and community based organizations, and presented at the 2008 AAHCP Annual Scientific Meeting. He is a member of the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development, American Academy of Medical Administrators and Medical Group Management Association.

HC Reform Bill

The final health care reform legislation recently signed by the President includes four provisions important to those organizations who are involved in the care of chronically-ill, older adults:

(1) the expansion of the CMS Innovation Center with language and funding providing for demonstration projects that focus on care coordination for older adults with multiple chronic conditions and cognitive impairment;

(2) the primary care physician bonus now specifically includes geriatric medicine;

(3) Medicare pilot to test bundled payments for acute and post-acute care, which are to include community-based alternatives; and

(4) mandate for CMS to pilot a home-based chronic care management program, Independence at Home (IAH), to create a program that brings collaborative, primary care-lead medical and psycho-social support services into the homes of the highest cost Medicare beneficiaries with multiple chronic conditions.

Mr. Feorene remains active in these landmark developments. He has been invited to participate in a task force charged with assisting CMS to design the IAH pilot, serving on both the executive oversight committee and the management implementation committee.
